Pluviophile: Are you a pluviophile? A pluviophile is a person who loves the rain so much it pours out of them! They find joy in it, as well as comfort and peace.
Petrichor: Have you ever gone outside after it rains and noticed that the world smells different? What you’re smelling is called petrichor! This pleasant and earthy scent is produced when raindrops hit the ground. They disturb the soil and cause certain plant oils and compounds to be released into the air.
Spitting: No this isn’t something you do when you accidentally take a bite out of something gross, and it isn’t what you do if you’re an old-timey cowboy in a saloon. Not in this case. It’s a term used to describe very light rain, characterized by small and sparse raindrops falling intermittently. Basically, it’s barely and unevenly raining, so it’s like the sky is spitting at you. Gross! And rude!
Rainbomb: When rainfall is really sudden, intense, and concentrated, it’s often called a rainbomb! You can’t defuse this bomb. Just stay safe amid the flood alerts and wait till it passes.
Sheet of Rain: This phrase describes rainfall that is so heavy it appears to be falling in sheets, but not like the cozy ones in your bed. These sheets are so thick as they create a continuous wall of water that they often obscure people’s vision.
